Homage to Dr. S.R. Pramanik

OBITUARY

Dr. S.R.Pramanik, a renowned metallurgist and General Manager I/c of RDCIS/ SAIL in 1978-79 breathed his last yesterday morning at around 8 AM in Kolkata where he had settled after his retirement from MECON Ltd, Ranchi as Director. Dr. Pramanik joined CEDB of HSL and rose to become Director (Technical) of MECON and remained on this post till his retirement.

He brought about remarkable changes in RDCIS administration then. Though he served RDCIS for very short period yet he will be remembered by initial batches of RDCIS Engineers and Researchers for his many contributions - including technical and organisational - he made to the functioning of RDCIS in its early days. He will always be remembered for establishing the RDCIS Sub Centres (known as Site Offices then) which helped improve efficiency of RDCIS Engineers during their trial / visits to the plants.

I, as President of ARDE (and SEFI rep) then, had chance of closer interaction with Dr. Pramanik on the issue of (i) Merger of MECON with SAIL and (ii) Expansion of DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali to accommodate ever increasing number of SAIL/ MECON employees and sharing of the expenses by SAIL and MECON.

We, the members of SEEA and FORSE mourn his death and pray for peace to the departed soul and courage to his family members to bear the loss.
